Former Tennessee running back John Kelly has been selected by the Rams. Kelly slid all the way to the 176th overall pick.
Kelly was one of the very few bright spots on a Tennessee offense that ranked near the bottom of the FBS in 2017. Kelly’s aggressive and flat-out angry running style carried the Tennessee offense in certain spots.
His efforts against Georgia Tech and Florida won’t soon be forgotten.
Kelly ended his time at Tennessee with 1,573 yards rushing and 15 touchdowns. He ended up averaging 4.8 yards per carry, playing behind an offensive line that really struggled to create space.
The 5-9, 205 pound back ended up tied for the team lead in receptions in 2017 with 37. Tennessee dialed up plenty of screens for him, just trying to get him some space. Those 37 catches went for 299 yards.
Kelly now slides into a depth role behind star running back Todd Gurley in Los Angeles.
