Perhaps the biggest target for Tennessee of the 2019 recruiting cycle was tackle Wanya Morris. The Vols have a clear need up front as Jeremy Pruitt tries to transform Tennessee back into more of a traditional, run first attack. In order to do that in the SEC, you better have some elite talent in the trenches.
Tennessee got their first building block up front in the 6-6, 293 pound Morris last week as he selected the Volunteers over the Auburn Tigers. Since that time, Morris has risen in the 2019 rankings. 247 Sports awarded him his 5th star today, giving Jeremy Pruitt his first five star commitment at Tennessee.
Morris is now 247 Sports’ 5th ranked tackle of the 2019 class and the 21st overall player. That statement that Tennessee made last week just got a little bit bigger. Morris said last week after he committed that he plans on helping out and getting more guys to Knoxville. That added 5th star can’t hurt those efforts.
Butch Jones was able to land a handful of five star talent during his time at Tennessee, but really struggled to develop and retain that talent. Pruitt and offensive line coach Will Friend will have a shot to buck that trend early on with Morris — and hopefully others.
