BetOnline.ag — one of the main offshore gambling sites on the web — has set Tennessee’s 2018 over/under for total regular season wins at 6.5. That’s an improvement from what we saw in some places before the spring, where the Vols came in around 5.5.
Alabama and Georgia were each placed at 10.5, which leads the SEC. Auburn (8.5), Florida (7.5), South Carolina (7.5) and Mississippi State (7.5) followed, while Tennessee, LSU and Missouri were all tied at 6.5.
Tennessee’s national title odds for 2018 remain an ultra long-shot at +35000, according to Bovada.lv.
So the question is, does Tennessee go over or under 6.5 wins in 2018? With so much up in the air, it’s hard to find more than three locks on the schedule (ETSU, UTEP, Charlotte). Games like Kentucky, Vanderbilt and Missouri Tigers could probably go either way.
The Vols probably have somewhat of a shot against West Virginia, Florida and South Carolina, but I’d expect them to be decent-sized underdogs in each of those matchups.
You can mark Alabama, Georgia and Auburn down as losses, barring a dramatic change in circumstance.
To be brutally honest, I’d probably have to lean the under here. After all, we’re still talking about a team that went winless in the SEC last year. New coaching staff or not, the problems on the roster can’t be fixed in one — or probably two — off-seasons.
It’s hard to find a path to seven wins here, but hey, crazier things have happened.
