Five Vols named to Athlon’s All-SEC teams

Tennessee had a good showing here.

Athlon Sports has released their preseason All-SEC teams and the Tennessee Volunteers were actually pretty well represented. The publication released four separate rosters with just one Volunteer appearing on their first team.

That, of course, was stud offensive lineman Trey Smith, who is entering his second season in Knoxville. Here’s a look at how the rest of the Vols shook out.

  • OG Trey Smith (1st team)
  • S Nigel Warrior (3rd team)
  • WR Jauan Jennings (4th team)
  • RB Ty Chandler (4th team)
  • PR Marquez Callaway (4th team)

Athlon seems to have hit the nail on the head here. Running back Ty Chandler is a bit of a projection, but he does figure to handle most of the carries for Tennessee this year. If Jauan Jennings can return to form and stay healthy, he absolutely belongs on this list as well.

Nigel Warrior will be stepping into a new defensive system and is set to take a big step forward. We saw the flashes last season, we’ll see if he can build on that success that he found in a lost 2017 season.

Did Athlon leave anyone off of this list? Who could rise and become a member of the post-season All-SEC team? Guys like Daniel Bituli and Dominick Wood-Anderson come to mind for me.
