The game will mark the first time that the two schools have played on the football field.
West Virginia enters this one in a better spot than the Vols, who will be in year one of the Jeremy Pruitt era. The Mountaineers return star quarterback Will Grier, who already has history breaking Tennessee fans’ hearts. Grier is now a legitimate NFL prospect entering his senior season.
For the Vols, we have more questions than answers right now about the roster, but that’s fairly typical in year one of a rebuild. Tennessee will have to get healthy, settle on a quarterback, find a new offensive line combination and get final answers on a number of positional changes before then.
The oddsmakers have given a clear and expected advantage to West Virginia, who currently holds up as about a touchdown favorite, depending on where you look.
