The race for 2019 quarterbacks is heating up. Tennessee doesn’t have a commit yet, but they’re definitely in the market. They tried to get in on Zach Calzada, but the three-star Elite 11 standout quickly committed to Texas A&M this week. The Vols might have a shot with Brendon Clark, now that he has decommitted from Wake Forest.
Another name to watch is Brian Maurer — a 6-4, pro-style passer out of Florida. The class of 2019 quarterback told SBNation’s Bud Elliott that Tennessee “has been blowing him up” as of late.
He also told Elliott that he plans on visiting Knoxville this weekend.

Maurer is a three-star prospect and the 18th ranked pro-style passer in the country, according to 247 Sports. He has seven crystal ball projections at this point — each one pointing towards West Virginia. Maurer says that he will also visit Ohio State, but he doesn’t yet hold an offer from the Buckeyes.
Let’s see if Jeremy Pruitt and the Vols can wrestle him away from the Mountaineers.
