John Ward Passes Away at 88

“Tennessee has lost its Voice.”

WBIR

The Vol Network announced via Twitter Wednesday night that legendary Tennessee broadcaster John Ward had passed away at the age of 88.

“It is with a heavy heart that we announce a great voice has gone silent,” the statement read.

Ward called Tennessee football and basketball games from 1968 to 1998, with his final football game being the Volunteers’ Fiesta Bowl victory over Florida State to capture the 1998 national championship.

Ward was, quite simply, one of the best to ever do it. He was an incredible broadcaster with an unbelievable ability to describe a moment.

Ward will be dearly missed by all of Vol Nation, but his calls of the glory days of Tennessee football will live on forever.

RIP, John Ward.
