The Tennessee Volunteers sent out another offer to a wide receiver over the weekend, jumping back in the mix for JaVonta Payton. You may remember Payton’s name, being that he was a target for the Vols in 2017. Payton ultimately chose to sign with Ole Miss, despite heavy interest from Tennessee.

However, Payton never made it to Oxford. He was forced to go the JUCO route in 2017, enrolling at Northwest Mississippi Community College. He caught 44 passes for over 500 yards and 10 touchdowns in his lone season there.

Now, he’s back on the open market.

Now with a new staff in place, Tennessee remains interested in the 6-1, 190 pound prospect. Payton got the new offer from Tennessee on Saturday.

Payton played high school ball at Hillsboro in Nashville. He is now the second ranked JUCO receiver and 16th overall JUCO prospect in the 2019 class. Payton committed once again to Ole Miss back in February.

Now with a Tennessee offer in hand, it’s going to be interesting to see where his recruitment goes from here. Can Jeremy Pruitt’s new staff do enough to flip him?

Tennessee currently has one receiver commitment in four-star Ramel Keyton. They’re in the mix for several more, though. After signing just two last season and potentially having to move Alontae Taylor to cornerback, Tennessee probably needs at least a couple more in the 2019 cycle.
