Watts is flying under the radar.

Tennessee is off to a nice start in the 2019 recruiting cycle, filling needs on the offensive line and at linebacker. However, they don’t have a commit at cornerback yet, which most would agree at this point is the largest hole on the roster.

The Vols will try a completely new group at cornerback this year after losing four contributors last season. While a few players like Shawn Shamburger, Marquill Osborne or Baylen Buchanan may emerge, Tennessee still lacks depth. That’s why you saw Alontae Taylor working with the defensive backs during the spring.

Tennessee has several possibilities at the position in the 2019 class, but a new name came up over the weekend. Atlanta area cornerback Dequan Watts announced that he would be visiting Knoxville on Monday.

Watts doesn’t yet have an offer from the Vols, but you can bet he’s hoping to land one on Monday.

He holds offers from Boston College, Ole Miss, Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest and a handful of smaller schools. Watts is currently unranked by 247 Sports, but Rivals has him rated as a three-star prospect.

At 6-2, Watts fits the profile of what this staff wants. Let’s see if he picks up an offer today.
