Tennessee offers South Carolina defensive tackle commit

Can the Vols pry him away?

NCAA Football: Tennessee at Missouri Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

Tennessee continued their search for size on the defensive line on Sunday night, sending out an offer to Jahkeem Green. The 6-4, 300 pound Green is currently committed to South Carolina, but he fits the Vols’ needs up front on defense.

Tennessee currently has two defensive line commitments in their 2019 class, each similar to Green’s size. LeDarrius Cox (6-4, 305) and JUCO Darel Middleton (6-7, 290) should help Tennessee begin to complete their transition to a 3-4 base scheme.

Green could help that cause immediately as well. The 2019 prospect is the second ranked JUCO defensive tackle in the country. He is the 18th overall player among the JUCO prospects, according to 247 Sports.

Green visited South Carolina in late March, picking up an offer from the Gamecocks. He immediately took them up on that offer, committing on the same day. Since then, Alabama, Georgia, Florida and Mississippi State have all sent offers.

For what it’s worth, Green is originally out of Sumter, South Carolina. That may help the Gamecocks retain him, but the pressure is certainly mounting from fellow SEC schools.
