Tennessee makes final three for in-state defensive tackle

A new name to monitor.

Size has been a theme for Jeremy Pruitt and the Tennessee coaching staff in the 2019 recruiting class. They are looking for players that fit the parameters of their 3-4 scheme as they attempt to make the transition from a 4-3 base. That means more girth up front from your three down linemen.

If you want girth, Elijah Simmons is your man. Simmons checks in at 6-1, 344 pounds and would be a perfect fit at nose tackle. The massive defensive tackle announced his top three schools today, which included Tennessee.

Simmons is a three-star recruit, according to 247 Sports. He is the 22nd ranked player out of the state of Tennessee and the 715th player in the country, currently.

Memphis and Missouri join Tennessee in Simmons’ final three. The Nashville area product visited Tennessee for a camp on June 12th, which is where he picked up his offer from the Vols.

Tennessee currently has two interior defensive linemen committed to their 2019 class.

“Big announcement coming soon,” said Simmons in his tweet. We may be finding out his final destination pretty quickly.
