Could Tennessee really pull the top two offensive tackles from the 2019 class? According to 247 Sports’ Shannon Terry, that’s a definite possibility. In fact, he’s even projecting it to happen.
Terry appeared on Nashville’s 104.5 The Zone on Friday, discussing his recent crystal ball projection of five-star tackle Darnell Wright to Tennessee.
“People really close to him love Pruitt,” Terry said. “He loves the Vols. In the end, I think it’s a battle between Alabama and Tennessee — and I think the Vols are going to win this one. That’s a long play from me. Right now I wouldn’t say that they’re in the driver’s seat, but by the end of the deal, they will be.”
Tennessee has already secured a commitment from five-star tackle Wanya Morris, who is ranked as the top tackle in the nation. The five-star Wright comes in right behind Morris, checking in at 9th overall in 247’s composite rankings.
The Vols also have commitments from four-star guard Jackson Lampley and three-star tackle Chris Akporoghene.
Ohio State still holds the lead for Wright in the crystal ball projections, but that could obviously take a hit with the ongoing Urban Meyer investigation. The 6-6, 320 pound saw Tennessee and Alabama two times in the spring.
Wright committing to Tennessee would be an obvious power move for Jeremy Pruitt and would solve Tennessee’s tackle situation for at least the next three years. As a fan, you’ve got to be excited about the added emphasis this staff is putting on the line of scrimmage.
