Kirk Herbstreit thinks Tennessee will give West Virginia ‘a run for their money’

There seems to be a decent amount of confidence around the Tennessee Volunteers entering week one. It’s an interesting situation considering the Vols were 4-8 last season, but the talent well in Tennessee isn’t totally dry. With a new staff bringing a new culture and scheme to the table, fans are fairly optimistic about this Saturday’s game against West Virginia.

You can add ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit to that optimistic camp, at least for this week. The former Ohio State quarterback said in a radio interview on Tuesday morning that he wouldn’t be surprised if the Vols gave the Mountaineers “a run for their money” on Saturday.

West Virginia is holding firm as ten point favorites, but it’s hard not to get excited about the prospect of Tennessee running out of the I-formation against that Mountaineer defense. Tennessee should be able to get things done on the ground and perhaps make a little noise through the air with Jauan Jennings and Marquez Callaway.

If the Vols can get anything out of the defense, I think they’ll be in the mix late. Then again, that’s a big if, considering the offensive talent that West Virginia has.

The good news is this — we only have to wait three more days to find out.
