Should Jalen Hurts transfer to Tennessee?

The Vols may be in need of a quarterback come 2019

John Adams of the Knox News Sentinel came out with a piece yesterday dissecting the thought of current Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts transferring to Knoxville.

Hurts’ dissatisfaction with head coach Nick Saban was brought into the open last Saturday as Hurts talked with reporters about the ongoing battle between Tua Tagovailoa and himself. Apparently Hurts was upset when Saban told reporters at SEC Media Days that he had “no idea” if Hurts would be on the roster when the season starts on September 1st.

“For me, no one came up to me the whole spring, coaches included, no one asked me how I felt. No one asked me what was on my mind. No one asked me how I felt about the things that were going on. Nobody asked me what my future held. That’s that. So now it’s like when we try to handle the situation now, for me, it’s kind of late, it’s too late, the narrative has already been created.” - Hurts, via espn.com

Adams’ piece is an interesting one. The Vols are still currently unsettled at quarterback and no one knows for sure if Jarrett Guarantano is the future. Keller Chryst, the grad-transfer from Stanford, is in his last year of eligibility and will be gone after this season.

If Guarantano doesn’t develop as needed, then that leaves current sophomore Will McBride, redshirt freshman JT Shrout, and incoming freshman Brian Maurer at quarterback for 2019. Hurts could transfer before the season begins and would be eligible to play next season.

He went 26-2 as a starter, leading the Tide to two national championships before getting benched during halftime of the national championship against Georgia. Not only does he bring leadership and experience, but he’d be in a system similar to the one ran at Alabama.

Knowing the head coach helps as well.

What do you think? Should he do it? Should the Vols even entertain the idea? Sound off in the comments below!
