After trailing early, Tennessee made up a ton of ground on Alabama cornerback Jaydon Hill. So much so that Knoxville appeared to be his destination of choice just days ago. But today, the Hill committed to the Florida Gators.

The Gators were always in the mix with Tennessee and South Carolina. It was a true tug of war that Dan Mullen and former Tennessee defensive backs coach Charlton Warren ended up winning over a couple of SEC East foes.
Hill took just one visit to Florida, attending the Friday Night Lights event in Gainesville back in July. He visited Knoxville three times following his offer back in March, even camping with Tennessee back in June. Florida didn’t offer Hill until June 16th.
Hill adds to the Gators’ 22nd ranked 2019 recruiting class, which is trying to rebound after a very slow start to the year.
Losing out on Hill is far from backbreaker for the Vols. Tennessee has youth at the position, as we all saw on Saturday. With two freshmen starters (Alontae Taylor, Bryce Thompson) at cornerback and two commitments in Tyus Fields and Warren Burrell already, Tennessee is actually in pretty good shape for the near future in the defensive backfield. You couldn’t say that two months ago.
