Down six with 90 seconds to play on Wednesday night in Nashville, things did not look good for the No. 1 Tennessee Volunteers. After four point play from Grant Williams following a ‘hook and hold’ technical foul call, the Vols were back in business. They got it to overtime and salted the game away, staying perfect in SEC play.
An early scare against West Virginia proved to be harmless on Saturday as Tennessee dominated from the ten minute mark on, rolling to another blowout win and ultimately securing another week at the top of the college basketball world.
This week’s AP poll remains unchanged at the top spots with Tennessee sitting above Duke. The Vols secured 48 of 64 first place votes. It’s the first time in school history that Tennessee has spent consecutive weeks as the nation’s top-ranked team.
Following Tennessee and Duke is Virginia, Gonzaga, Michigan and Michigan State. Kentucky moved up to No. 7 following their win over Kansas.
