Since new offensive coordinator Jim Chaney has arrived on campus, Tennessee has been taking a fresh look at the 2020 quarterback class. The Vols have already secured a commitment from four-star passer Harrison Bailey, but that hasn’t stopped Tennessee from making a few more offers within the class.
Chaney made his first recruiting stop in Texas, offering three-star quarterbacks Deuce Hogan and Haynes King. Tennessee has followed those offers up with another one, offering Jeff Sims on Tuesday.

Sims is currently unranked by 247 Sports, but that’s likely to change soon. Over the past month, Sims has received offers from Virginia Tech, Florida State, Georgia and now Tennessee. The 6-3, 195 pound quarterback is out of Jacksonville, Florida.
This is probably a simple example of Tennessee covering their bases at the position. It’s possible that they take two quarterbacks in the 2020, too. Tennessee has junior Jarrett Guarantano, redshirt freshman JT Shrout and true freshman Brian Mauer on the roster this year. With Keller Chryst out of the picture, it should be interesting to see these three work in the spring.
With highly touted Bailey coming in the 2020 class, it’s possible, if not likely, that Tennessee loses a quarterback between now and then.
Here’s a quick look at Sims, who offers some athleticism at the position.
