Big news.

One of Tennessee’s highest rated recruits is shutting his process down — and signing early. Four-star defensive lineman Omari Thomas out of the Memphis area committed to Tennessee last week, and he clearly isn’t having any second thoughts.

“Recruitment 100% shut down,” Thomas tweeted over the weekend.

The 6-5, 300 pound Thomas is the 105th ranked prospect in the 2020 class, according to the 247 Sports Composite rankings. After missing on a couple of in-state prospects, Thomas was a big get for Jeremy Pruitt and staff. He currently sits as the 4th ranked prospect in the state of Tennessee.

Shortly after Thomas committed to Tennessee, his teammate running back Jabari Small joined him in Tennessee’s 2020 class.

The biggest piece of news here is that Thomas will sign early this week during the early signing period. The initial plan for the four-star defensive lineman was to wait until February. Instead, he’ll truly wrap up the recruiting process later this week, which is a big win for Pruitt and his staff.

Thomas played on both sides of the ball in high school, taking home Tennessee’s Mr. Football award as a senior. But his fit at the next level will be on the defensive line — a place where Tennessee could use a couple of difference makers.
