For the first time ever, the Vanderbilt Commodores beat Tennessee at Thompson-Boling Arena in women’s basketball. It’s yet another new low for the Lady Vols, who have seen their 2018-19 season spiral out of control.
There’s a decent chance that the Lady Vols won’t even be playing in the NCAA Tournament this season, unless they make a good run through the SEC Tournament. That’s a staggering development — something I never thought we would see in my lifetime.
“You’re not going to win on just talent,” Holly Warlick said after the game. “You’re not going to win just because you’ve got ‘Tennessee’ across your chest. You’ve got to win because you have a passion and you have a will, and you have desire and you step up and say ‘dammit, I’m not going to lose.’
“That’s when you’re going to win.”
In a make or break year, Warlick has totally flopped. Tennessee is 17-11 overall and just 6-9 in conference play. Warlick has done nothing but prove her doubters right this season. The Lady Vols play their final regular season game on Sunday against Ole Miss.
