2019 win total prop set for Tennessee

Over or under?

NCAA Football: Charlotte at Tennessee Randy Sartin-USA TODAY Sports

Spring football is in the air and the oddsmakers in Vegas are already looking towards the fall. A new batch of win totals hit sportsbooks yesterday, releasing over/under props for the 2019 college football season.

Tennessee’s number sits at 7 to open. This number was 5.5 at this time last year.

All the metrics forecast an improvement for the Vols in 2019. Both ESPN’s FPI and S&P+ actually project Tennessee to be a top 25 team this season, thanks to tons of returning production. That idea makes sense, but Tennessee still has to navigate a brutal SEC schedule to get there.

Florida, Georgia, Mississippi State and Alabama serve as Tennessee’s toughest stretch this season, which is similar to 2018. Beyond that, they’ll have to get over the hump and beat teams like South Carolina, Vanderbilt and Missouri to hit the over here. Even if you include four non-conference wins (Chattanooga, Georgia State, BYU, UAB), Tennessee would have to get to four SEC wins to hit the over.

Seven feels like the correct number here for me. I could talk myself into eight, but there’s too many offensive questions surrounding this team right now for me to commit to that.

What about you? Over or under seven wins for the Vols in 2019?
