After trailing for the entire game, Tennessee rallied in the second half to get back in contention in their Sweet 16 matchup with Purdue. A 14-0 run brought them all the way back, with the Volunteers eventually taking the lead.
Tennessee gained control of the game late in the second half, taking a two point lead with a little over eight seconds to play in the game. One final possession would determine the fate of both squads.
After a block, Purdue would have 2.7 seconds to make something happen. What happened next will live on in the heads of Tennessee fans all offseason.
Tennessee fouled Carsen Edwards on the 3-point attempt. He made two. This ending has been bonkers. pic.twitter.com/uDRkOPi2GC

The officials called a foul on Lamonte Turner, sending Purdue star Carsen Edwards to the line for three free throws. The call? Questionable. It’s one you don’t see made very often with everything on the line. Regardless of how you feel about the call, you hate to see such a good game put in the hands of the referees.
It brings back memories of the 2014 “charge” call on Jarnell Stokes. It’s just the latest chapter in March Sadness for Tennessee fans.
Here’s Turner’s reaction.
Lamonte Turner: Last play of the game, he shoots a three, kicks his leg out. I make contact with his leg. Not sure how I’m supposed to defend that.

And here’s some reaction from around Twitter to the call.
Tennessee got hosed. There was no foul on that three at the end of regulation.

Sensational game. Congrats to Purdue. Absolute garbage foul call on Tennessee on 3 at end of regulation. Just terrible. Season, game changer.

Show me where the fouls is here. Edwards can’t kick his legs out. This is a garbage call in Purdue/Tennessee https://t.co/u7gdP0aZR8

Man Tennessee got jobbed. That foul call on the 3-pointer to end regulation was a joke. Oh, and Edwards right heel was on the line. Ridiculous.
