Vols Among Favorites for Louisiana Corner

A Pruitt-type DB to monitor.

The Vols have some momentum right now in their 2020 recruiting class following a successful spring game and the commitment of Jimmy Calloway. Now, one of their top targets in the secondary has named the Vols as one of his favorites.

Joel Williams just visited Knoxville last month. On Tuesday, the four star corner placed the Vols in his top 13 via a graphic posted on his twitter.

Fellow SEC schools Georgia, Florida and Auburn are other schools notably present in his finalists.

The 6-foot-2, 193 pound corner is a composite four star according to 247sports. He is ranked as the 205th-best player in the nation, 12th-best athlete in the country and 7th-best player in Louisiana.

Williams has an excellent combination of size and speed. According to his hudl profile, he runs a 4.49 40 yard dash. While he is listed as a corner, he has the potential to play on either side of the ball.

David Johnson is his primary recruiter, and the two have developed a solid relationship. This relationship could prove key closer to signing day.

On the field, he shows a lot of potential. He is strong enough to press bigger receivers at the line of scrimmage, but fast enough to run with the speedier guys. His hips are fluid and he has great ball skills. He does, however, still have plenty of room to improve as a tackler. If he were to play receiver, Williams is more than capable. He is explosive in space and has strong hands.

It is certainly a tall task to poach one of the top players in Louisiana away from LSU, but the Vols are real players. Williams has been very complimentary of Tennessee and their coaching staff and they should expect to be in the picture with him right up until signing day.
