A name to file away.

As Rick Barnes tries to construct a plan for his current offseason, plenty of work is being done elsewhere on the recruiting trail. According to Jake Weingarten of Stock Risers, Rick Barnes was in to visit five-star 2021 guard Kennedy Chandler on Sunday.

Chandler is top ranked player in the state of Tennessee for the 2021 class. According to 247 Sports, Chandler is the 21st ranked player in the entire class. The 6-1 point guard prospect is out of the Memphis area, attending Briarcrest Christian. He averaged nearly 20 point per game as a sophomore last season.

Chandler holds offers from Ole Miss, Alabama, Arizona State, Arkansas, Seton Hall and Vanderbilt for now.

Tennessee will lose Lamonte Turner and Jordan Bone after this season, potentially losing Bone this offseason if he opt to stay in the draft. They’re heavily involved in 2020 point guard Jalen Cone, attempting to get him to reclassify to the 2019 class. Outside of that, there’s not much brewing in terms of the future of the point guard position at Tennessee. Barnes certainly has a future need to fill at that position.

Quite a bit will change for Chandler over the next several months as the heavy recruiting months kick into gear. It’s just a matter of time before more big time offers flood in. We’ll see if Tennessee can stay in the hunt for the in-state guard over the next year.
