Jordan Bone crushes NBA Combine, sets date for final decision

A quick look through all of the two round NBA mock drafts gives you projections on Grant Williams and Admiral Schofield, but virtually nothing on point guard Jordan Bone. The Nashville native declared for the draft in early April, reportedly with intentions of staying in. However, to this point, the lack of buzz around Bone had been notable.

That all changed on Thursday afternoon.

Bone finished the day second in the vertical jump, registering a staggering 42.5 inches. Former Tennessee target Jalen Lecque eventually took over the top spot.

He then led the pack in the 3/4ths court sprint, checking in with a time of 3.03. For reference, that’s good enough to best the times of Derrick Rose and Russell Westbrook. Bone’s vertical jump was also a good amount better than those same two NBA guards.

Bone finished first in the standing vertical, shuttle and lane agility drills.

He became a complete player for Tennessee this season, taking a huge leap forward from the 2017-18 season. Something clicked for Bone, who was in total control of the offense throughout the season. Rick Barnes talked for two years about Bone’s potential and athleticism. That potential started to shine through in 2018-19.

The 6-3 point guard jumped from 7.3 to 13.5 points per game. His assist numbers jumped up as well, going from 3.5 to 5.8 per contest. His field goal percentage climbed to 46 percent, while he seemed to find his long range stroke late in the year.

That improvement had the NBA taking notice, causing Bone to declare to get feedback from teams. He has until May 29th to make a final decision, and he told Stadium’s Jeff Goodman that he intends on making that call on the 29th.

Bone’s teammate Grant Williams announced earlier in the week that he would be announcing his final NBA Draft decision on Saturday.

We’ll soon find out the final decisions for both — each of which will greatly change the expectation level for the 2019-20 team, one way or the other.
