Tennessee cracks top five for four-star, top 50 linebacker Trenton Simpson

SBNation Recruiting

Tennessee remains in the hunt for highly ranked four-star linebacker Trenton Simpson, landing inside of his top five schools this weekend. Simpson, a 6-2, 220 pound prospect out of Charlotte, North Carolina, included Miami, North Carolina, Auburn and Georgia, along with the Vols in his top choices on Friday night.

Simpson is the 33rd ranked player in the 2020 class, according to 247 Sports. He’s the second ranked player out of the state of North Carolina and the third ranked off-ball linebacker prospect.

Tennessee offered Simpson in January and got him on campus for a junior day event shortly after. He’s seen Georgia and North Carolina twice since. Simpson has official visits lined up for June with both Georgia and Auburn.

The home state Tar Heels currently hold six of his seven crystal ball projections from 247 Sports.

Simpson certainly fits the mold of a Pruitt type linebacker with his 6-2 frame and athletic ability. He showed out at The Opening regional in Charlotte last weekend, running a 4.6 in the 40 yard dash along with an outstanding 37.8 inch vertical leap. He’s definitely cut from the same mold as Quavaris Crouch and Henry To’oto’o, who Pruitt hauled in during the 2019 cycle.

Here’s a quick look at what Simpson brings to the table.
