We’re a little over 50 days from the start of basketball season. After the first couple of weeks of football season, basketball can’t come soon enough. Rick Barnes and company are looking to reload and kick off a new era without Grant Williams or Admiral Schofield in the picture. Both moved on to the NBA during the offseason, along with Jordan Bone and Kyle Alexander.
Tennessee will be heavily reliant on senior guards Lamonte Turner and Jordan Bowden this season, along with five-star freshman guard Josiah James. Even after losing four of their starting five from last year, the oddsmakers aren’t totally down on the Volunteers this year.
BetOnline.ag placed Tennessee with the fourth best odds to win the regular season crown in 2019-20, trailing only Kentucky, Florida and Auburn. You can get Tennessee at 8-1 currently to take the regular season title.
Tennessee has a few questions to answer in the post, but will lean heavily on guard play this season. Will they be able to contend for a league title without Grant and Admiral? That remains to be seen, but you probably shouldn’t count out Rick Barnes.
