2020 prospect Darion Williamson decommits from Tennessee

The writing was on the wall.

Tennessee officially lost a commitment early Monday afternoon as Darion Williamson officially cut ties with the Volunteers. This move had been in the works since Williamson chose not to sign with Tennessee during the early signing period.

Williamson is coming off of an official visit to Florida State over the weekend. Most people think he’ll end up in Tallahassee, but he does have one more official visit lined up at Arkansas this coming weekend.

The 6-3, 190 pound athlete is the 819th ranked player in the country, per the 247Sports composite rankings. Williamson is out of Brownsville, Tennessee. He committed to the Volunteers on July 17th.

As we mentioned above, the writing seemed to be on the wall here. If you’re committed and you don’t sign in December, you may as well be decommitted. With Florida State pushing hard, Tennessee shifted their focus to a couple of other receiver prospects with size. Malachi Wideman and Dee Beckwith have been big targets for Tennessee’s staff this month. Can they close the deal with one of those two?

We’ll find out soon enough. The traditional signing day date is set for Wednesday, February 5th — a little over a week from now.
