Four-star DT Tywone Malone names Tennessee to ‘final six’

NCAA Football: Missouri at Tennessee Knoxville News-Sentinel-USA TODAY NETWORK

Tennessee has landed in the top six for 2021 defensive tackle Tywone Malone. A Twitter post from the two-sport high school star detailed what he called a ‘final six,’ which included Tennessee, Florida State, Texas A&M, USC, Rutgers and Ole Miss.

Malone also plays baseball, adding another element to his recruitment. On the football field, Malone ranks as the 55th overall prospect in the 2021 class. The 6-3, 300 pound defensive tackle prospect is the top player in the state of New Jersey, according to the 247Sports Composite.

Malone is also a first baseman prospect who participated in several premier baseball tournaments over the summer. He’s set to take part in the Under Armor All-American football game at the end of the year, set to cement his status as one of the top prospects in the nation.

Alabama, Georgia, Florida, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State are just a few of the schools that have offered Malone, but didn’t make the cut at this point in his process.

Tennessee currently has two defensive line prospects committed to their 2021 class. The decision by the NCAA to freeze eligibility for the 2020 season has added a new element to roster building, potentially helping the Volunteers. Tennessee had six seniors set to leave the program on the defensive line, but that could now change with this new ruling.

The Vols are also after Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins, another four-star defensive tackle out of South Carolina. Tennessee currently holds 25 commitments in the 2021 class, which is good for 6th overall, per 247Sports.
