After seeing their first four games of the 2020-21 season canceled, Tennessee was left scrambling to add non-conference matchups for the month of December. We now know they’ll add at least one, which will become the new season opener.
Tennessee will now host UT Martin on Wednesday, December 9th. It will be the Vols’ first game of the season, ahead of a December 12th meeting with Cincinnati.
The two schools last met in 2010, with Tennessee coming away with a 68-62 win. The Volunteers hold a 4-0 lead in the series.
The NCAA backed up the start of the season to November 25th, which ended up canceling a game against Wisconsin for Tennessee. A neutral-site meeting with Memphis in Nashville was put off until next year. Following a COVID situation within the program last week, games against Charlotte, VCU, Notre Dame and Gonzaga were all canceled.
All of those changes left Tennessee with just four non-conference games ahead of the SEC opener at the end of the month.
So Tennessee will now host the Skyhawks next Wednesday, set for a 7 p.m. ET tip-off. The game will be carried by SEC Network+, which is available via stream.
