The Tennessee Volunteers are now the tenth ranked team in America, following two wins to open the 2020-21 season. The Vols got the better of Cincinnati and Colorado — two tough opponents to get the blood pumping ahead of SEC play. Over the next two weeks, Tennessee will play four more games, but the heavy lifting will let up a bit.
The Vols face Appalachian State tonight at Thompson-Boling Arena, searching for a 3-0 start. The Mountaineers enter at 4-1 on the year, with their lone loss coming against Bowling Green. App State has beaten South Carolina Upstate, Carver, Charlotte and North Carolina Wilmington.
Adrian Delph, Kendall Lewis and Donovan Gregory offer a balanced scoring attack for the Mountaineers, each averaging double figures so far this season.
Although it’s extremely early, Tennessee boasts the fourth-ranked defense in the country, per KenPom. The trick for this group over the next couple of weeks will be finding more of a rhythm for the offense, which has gotten off to an slow start without any real tune-up games to this point.
They’ve got a chance to work some kinks out tonight.
