Tennessee up to No. 7 in latest AP Poll

NCAA Basketball: South Carolina Upstate at Tennessee Randy Sartin-USA TODAY Sports

Tennessee will begin conference play this week as the nation’s No. 7 team. The Volunteers moved up this week in the AP Poll, following a couple of tune-up wins ahead of SEC play. Tennessee will open with Missouri on Wednesday, which will serve as the first real test of the season.

Missouri moved up to No. 12 this week, setting up a big matchup between Cuonzo Martin and Rick Barnes.

Gonzaga holds on to the top spot as they continue to chew up and spit out top opponents. The Bulldogs destroyed Virginia last week, once again reaffirming their status as the top dog in the entire college basketball field.

Tennessee and Missouri are the only ranked teams in the SEC to begin conference play. Arkansas received some votes in the poll this week, along with Florida and Georgia.
