Tennessee’s season opener with UT Martin has been canceled

Ugh.

The wait continues.

After scheduling a new opening game with UT Martin on Tuesday, Tennessee has now announced that the game has been canceled due to positive COVID-19 results from UTM.

It’s the fifth canceled game for Tennessee in the last two weeks. The Volunteer Classic with VCU and Charlotte was called off last week after positives within Tennessee’s basketball program. Games against Notre Dame and Gonzaga were also canceled as a result.

Tennessee’s next scheduled game is December 12th against Cincinnati, but the Vols are likely trying to add something between now and then. It’s not clear if that is possible at this point, but stayed tuned.

The Volunteers now have only four non-conference games on the schedule ahead of SEC play, which opens on December 30th against Missouri.

Tennessee has also lost games against Wisconsin and Memphis this year after the NCAA backed up the start of the season to November 25th.

It’s a shame that we won’t get a full slate of games with this team, which features the return of John Fulkerson and Yves Pons, along with the addition of two more five-star guards with immediate NBA futures coming.

Hopefully Tennessee is able to add something to the schedule for the middle of next week.
