After the news broke that defensive line coach Tracy Rocker would be joining the South Carolina staff, it has now been reported that Chris Rumph will also be on the move. Rumph has coached the outside linebackers while holding the title of co-defensive coordinator since arriving in Knoxville with Jeremy Pruitt.

He will now jump to the NFL ranks, joining the staff of the Houston Texans. He creates a second defensive opening for Pruitt to fill, following Rocker’s departure. Rocker’s contract expired on January 31st.

Inside linebackers coach Kevin Sherrer also joined the NFL ranks, jumping to the New York Giants last month. Rumph had one season left on his contract. He was the primary recruiter for four-star linebacker Morven Joseph during the 2020 cycle.

So the entire defensive staff outside of Derrick Ansley is getting a new look. We know Brian Niedermeyer will handling inside linebacker responsibilities, while it looks like Jimmy Brumbaugh will take over the defensive line.

Still, Jeremy Pruitt now has one more opening to fill on his staff. Stay tuned — because things are moving quickly this morning.
