Fanpulse: Confidence in the men’s basketball program plummets after a rough week

Completely understandable.

NCAA Basketball: Tennessee at Arkansas
It’s been a rough ride lately for the Vols.
Brett Rojo-USA TODAY Sports

The past week was not good for Tennessee basketball. A tough loss to Auburn then a blowout loss to Arkansas has basically erased any hope for an at-large bid in the NCAA tournament.

And to make things worse, confidence in the direction of the program has plummeted to a season-low 67% on Fanpulse. The previous mark was 79% earlier in the year.

I don’t even think wins in these last three games (Florida, Kentucky, Auburn) would push the Vols over the top. It looks like winning the SEC Tournament is the only way to get to the postseason this year.

Who is No. 1??

SB Nation also ran a poll among the fans in order to see which four teams deserve the top seed if the season ended today.

The results were as follows:

  1. Kansas - 907 votes (86%)
  2. Baylor - 897 (85%)
  3. Gonzaga - 780 (74%)
  4. San Diego State - 494 (47%)
  5. Dayton - 386 (37%)
  6. Duke - 313 (30%)
  7. Maryland - 238 (23%)
  8. Florida State - 197 (19%)

As you can see, it was a tight race between Baylor and Kansas for the first overall seed. After that, the field pretty much separates itself.

We are this much closer to March Madness!
