Surprise! Tennessee landed a commitment seemingly out of nowhere on Wednesday night. Four-star athlete Kaemen Marley is the latest prospect to commit to the Volunteers, bringing the 2021 total to 23.
Marley might just be the most wide open projection in Tennessee’s class. Listed as an athlete, Marley has done everything from playing receiver, to safety, to punting. The 6-2, 206 pound prospect does it all for Eastern Randolph High School in North Carolina, but what will he do for Tennessee?
Most of his tape comes at the receiver position, where Marley uses his big frame and long speed to beat defenders deep. As noted by our own Clint Eiland, his competition hasn’t been the greatest at the high school level. This makes for a difficult evaluation — one that could place him on either side of the ball.
But Tennessee is loaded at the receiver position, thanks to the class of 2020 and 2021. Do they have room for another? It’s possible, but that fact may force Marley to start on the defensive side of the ball.
My best guess? Marley ends up as a long term safety. He doesn’t appear to be overly fluid as an athlete, but he shows off good instincts and has obvious ball skills.
Here’s a look at what he brings to the table.
