Tennessee is in the thick of things for a former Florida commit. Brashard Smith, a top 400 prospect out of Miami, trimmed his list to five on Thursday, which included Tennessee. Florida, Auburn, Oregon and Miami joined the Volunteers in his new top five.

The 5-8, 190 pound receiver is the 350th ranked prospect in the 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s also been graded as an all-purpose running back, considering his size. For now, we’ll call him an offensive weapon.
Smith committed to Florida on January 8th, but it only lasted a few months. He decommitted on May 1st, opening the door for other schools to get back into the mix. Tennessee has been after Smith since May of 2019, sending out one of the first power five offers to the Miami native.
Tennessee currently has four running backs and four receivers committed to their currently 2021 class, which is now up to 23 names. That’s good for 2nd in the country right now with several months remaining. With the Volunteers not exactly hurting for skill players on the offensive side, it will be interesting to see who else they add. Will they take another receiver? That remains to be seen. Of course, you’re likely to see some natural attrition here as recruiting resumes this fall and the class continues to fill up.
On the field, Smith offers a ton of juice. His burst and ability to make defenders miss stands out. As junior, Smith caught 36 passes for 628 yards and an impressive 13 touchdowns.
