Eight days ago, Tennessee had a pedestrian 2021 recruiting class sitting in the teens of any rankings you looked at. Today, they’re inside of the top three. A shocking seven commitments over the past week have the Volunteers steamrolling through this coronavirus shutdown, set to come out on the other side with all of the momentum in the world.
Tennessee’s latest commitment is four-star running back Cody Brown, the 125th ranked player in the 2021 class, per the 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s the 4th back to commit to Tennessee in this class, but is easily the highest ranked of the bunch. He also brings a different style.
At 6-0, 227 pounds, Brown is filled out and ready to go at the next level. That size will likely pay dividends at the next level, potentially as early as next season sharing the load with Eric Gray. Tennessee has been on the hunt for bigger backs during this cycle and they’ve now found two.
JUCO back Tiyon Evans committed to Tennessee last week, giving the Volunteers two commitments at the position who check in north of 225 pounds.
With Brown, Tennessee is getting a guy who runs with some anger and physicality, but also shows off plenty of balance. Check out his junior season below, where he ran for over 1,600 yards and 20 touchdowns.
