After nearly three months off, Tennessee’s athletic teams returned to campus for voluntary workouts at the beginning of June. At the same time, the Volunteers’ football program welcomed 19 more freshmen to campus, bringing their total to 91 players. It’s the closest thing to normal that we’ve seen in the college sports world in some time.
So what exactly does a summer workout look like? USC transfer Velus Jones Jr. took us behind the scenes to find out.
Jones has one season of eligibility left, which he will spend in Knoxville. He graduated from USC, making him eligible to move on to another FBS school without penalty. Jones is a former three-star prospect out of Alabama. The 6-0, 190 pound receiver should provide veteran depth at the receiver spot for Tennessee, while handling some return duties.
Jones was recruited to USC by now Tennessee assistant Tee Martin, if you’re wondering how Jones ended up in Knoxville.
In the video above, Jones takes you through a full day in the life. He goes from his apartment, to the training center, to the cafeteria and to the practice field for a rare inside look.
