Expectations are back.

The Tennessee Volunteers have cracked another top 25 poll, landing in respected college football analyst Phil Steele’s preseason rankings. The Vols have appeared in a few preseason top 25s to this point as they try to improve on their eight win season from 2019.

Tennessee only lost six starters from last year and is set to return the entire starting five up front on the offensive line, along with adding high-profile transfer Cade Mays from Georgia.

Steele ranks the Volunteers 20th overall heading into the fall. Tennessee slid in between fellow SEC schools Auburn and Kentucky in the poll. Alabama led the way in the conference at No. 3, while Texas A&M surprised at 5th. LSU (6), Georgia (7) and Florida (13) rounded out the SEC’s presence in the poll.

Ohio State and Clemson took the top spots. Oklahoma, Tennessee’s week two opponent — assuming non-conference games survive — checks in at No. 4.

Here’s a look at the rest of Steele’s top 25.
