Tennessee’s newest target in the class of 2021 is set to visit virtually with the coaching staff soon, according to a report from Stock Risers. Jahmai Mashack, a four-star guard out of California, is hearing quite a bit from Tennessee these days.
Jake Weingarten reports that Rick Barnes had “made it a priority” to visit with Mashack.
They will virtually meet with him on Tuesday and Rick Barnes has made it a priority to speak with Mashack and I fully expect the Vols to make a major push here and try and land a pledge from the Etiwanda product.
Tennessee seems to be on the verge of landing five-star guard Kennedy Chandler in the class of 2021, who has remained their top target for some time now. Rick Barnes has landed three five-star guards in the last two seasons and continues to recruit at a high level.
Mashack is the 99th ranked player in the 247Sports Composite rankings. Oklahoma, Texas, Arizona, Arizona State, Louisville, Colorado and Utah are a few of the other teams in the mix for the 6-5, 190 pound shooting guard.
The Volunteers are loaded at the guard position for the immediate future, but with three five-star guards on the roster, they could very well deal with early departures to the NBA. Tennessee will see at least three spots come free after next season, all coming in the frontcourt. John Fulkerson, Yves Pons — assuming he does return this season — and E.J. Anosike will all play their final years of eligibility this winter. Barnes and his staff have targets Jabari Smith and Paolo Banchero as potential replacements in the 2021 class, among others.
For now, keep Mashack’s name on your mind. We’ll see just how hard of a push Tennessee makes here.
