According to a couple of reports, Jeremy Banks is enrolled at Tennessee and is currently working out with the football team. Doug Mathews reported the news this afternoon on the Midday 180, along with Dan Harrelson at VolsWire.
Banks was removed from the team after an encounter with the Knoxville police, stemming from an unpaid parking ticket. The scene at the arrest was later released on video, which made removing Banks from the team a no-brainer move for Jeremy Pruitt.
However, Banks remained enrolled at Tennessee through the situation and rumors never quite went away that he could rejoin the team at some point. Now we’ve got multiple reports that he’s back working out with the football team.
Banks signed with Tennessee as a three-star running back out of Cordova. He began his career at running back, but moved to the linebacker position for year two due to depth concerns. Banks ended up intercepting two passes against Chattanooga last season, filling in for Daniel Bituli. But that progress was quickly brought to a halt.
To be clear, nothing official has been announced by the football program, but Banks does appear to be in line for a second chance. Tennessee could use a veteran body at the linebacker position, though Banks has limited experience at the spot.
