Tennessee’s latest commitment is now officially a four-star prospect, according to 247Sports. The recruiting service updated their ranking this week, awarding McGhee his fourth star in the 247Sports Composite rankings. McGhee moved all the way up to 235th overall, good for a gain of over 140 spots.

The Composite, which averages rankings together from other services, is lower on McGhee than 247’s true rankings. Using their own rankings, McGhee is a top 100 prospect, checking in at 89th overall in the 2021 class. He is the eighth ranked cornerback in the nation and the 11th ranked prospect in the state of Florida.

The 6-1, 163 pound prospect committed to Tennessee on July 30th. He filled a need for Tennessee as Jeremy Pruitt tries to restock the cornerback depth chart ahead of the potential loss of Bryce Thompson and Baylen Buchanan. The NCAA’s decision to freeze eligibility for 2020 has thrown a new wrench into roster construction, but cornerback depth remains a need for the Volunteers regardless.

Tennessee currently holds the 6th ranked class in the country entering year three under Jeremy Pruitt.

For McGhee, he chose Tennessee over more than 30 other scholarship offers. Georgia, Alabama, USC and Oklahoma are just a few of the premier programs with standing offers out to him.

The Volunteers hold two cornerback commitments in their 2021 class, one from McGhee and another from three-star Jay Jones. Four-star cornerback Nyland Green is another name to watch as Tennessee rounds out its class.
