Tennessee picked to finish 3rd in SEC East by media

The votes are in.

NCAA Football: Alabama at Tennessee Bryan Lynn-USA TODAY Sports

We were robbed of SEC Media Days this year, an event that was going to feature characters like Mike Leach, Lane Kiffin and Ed Orgeron. Those days are a landmark for SEC football fans, something that signals that football’s return is near.

However, without that event this year, we also didn’t get the media’s annual SEC projections. That finally changed this week.

Alabama was the overall pick to win the conference, earning 77 first place votes. Georgia and LSU were next, tied at seven, followed by Florida with five votes.

The Gators were the somewhat surprising pick to win the SEC East, likely fueled by sudden uncertainty at the quarterback position for Georgia. Florida narrowly edged Georgia by a vote of 53 to 43.

Tennessee came in next in the East, slated to finish third.
