After dropping two straight games, the now 18th ranked Tennessee Volunteers are looking to stop the bleeding at home against Mississippi State. Tennessee is coming off of losses to Florida and Missouri last week, two games that were played without five-star freshman Jaden Springer.
Springer is listed as day-to-day with an ankle injury and his status for tonight is unclear. Point guard Santiago Vescovi is dealing with a hip injury, something he was able to play through on Saturday.
Mississippi State, now 9-7 overall and 4-4 in the SEC, has dropped two games in a row. They played Alabama tough on the road over the weekend, but were blown out by Ole Miss in last week’s midweek matchup.
The Bulldogs are led by 6-6 sophomore guard D.J. Stewart, who is averaging 18 points per game. 6-3 guard Iverson Molinar doesn’t trail him by much, averaging 17.5 and shooting nearly 50 percent from three-point range.
Tennessee will be looking for a spark tonight, ahead of a big non-conference matchup with Kansas on Saturday.
