Danny White appears to be closing in on his pick to take over for Jeremy Pruitt at Tennessee, and it’s a very familiar name for White. Josh Heupel has emerged as a top candidate for the Volunteers, per VolQuest and Austin Price.

White hired Heupel to replace Scott Frost at UCF following Frost’s departure to Nebraska. Frost guided the Golden Knights to an undefeated season in 2017, just two years removed from an 0-12 season.
Heupel took things from there, going 12-1 in 2018, 10-3 in 2019 and 6-4 in 2020. That regression is obviously the big concern here.
Before landing at UCF, Heupel was the offensive coordinator at Missouri. He spent time at Oklahoma as a quarterbacks coach and co-offensive coordinator before that, while also stopping for a season at Utah State as the offensive coordinator in 2015.
This is a developing story and we will update it with any news that breaks.
