The hire of Josh Heupel at Tennessee clearly wasn’t enough to keep star running back Eric Gray in Knoxville. The sophomore runner hit the transfer portal last week, following the lead of several key Volunteers.
Tonight, he’s announced that he’s going to Oklahoma.

Gray joins former five-star tackle Wanya Morris and four-star defensive back Key Lawrence in Norman.
The Memphis native was pretty easily Tennessee’s best skill player in 2020. Gray ran for 772 yards and four touchdowns in nine games. Following the exit of Jeremy Pruitt, Gray decided that his time in Knoxville would come to a close.
Gray’s electricity will certainly be missed. It was one of the few things that we could count on in the dreadful 2020 offensive attack, and it certainly would have been fun to see in Josh Heupel’s system. Ty Chandler has also transferred out, landing at North Carolina.
Tennessee is left with Tiyon Evans, Jabari Small, Tee Hodge, Cody Brown, Jaylen Wright, Len’Neth Whitehead and Dee Beckwith now at running back. Whitehead and Beckwith could change positions under a new staff, which is something to watch for during the spring.
Henry To’o To’o, Quavaris Crouch and Jahmir Johnson remain in the portal at this time, so those are the three names to continue to monitor.
