Tennessee-Ole Miss: Vols set to host massive list of visitors this weekend

NCAA Football: Tennessee Tech at Tennessee Bryan Lynn-USA TODAY Sports

Tennessee plays Ole Miss tomorrow at 7:30 PM, and there seems to be a coordinated effort from the athletic department to capitalize on the moment and squeeze every ounce of value from a sold-out Neyland Stadium and a legitimate big-game atmosphere on campus.

Tony V and the Vols baseball team scrimmaged tonight and both the mens’ and womens’ basketball teams have open practices/scrimmages tomorrow (men at 11 AM, women at 2 PM).

There’s also a TON of prospects scheduled to be in town for visits. Full disclosure: this list is pulled directly from VolNation and isn’t exhaustive. There’s a bunch of “maybes,” so check out VN to see the rest of the names. Several other players who are currently committed to Tennessee football are included there, like 4-star OL Addison Nichols from Norcross, GA., (Jason Croom, Alvin Kamara).

I see a theme here — anybody else see it? Powell’s Walter Nolen, the No. 1 overall recruit in the country, is visiting along with eight other players in the upcoming ‘22 class who are committed to Tennessee.

Looks to be just massive amount of homegrown talent in the ‘23 class. A buncha linemen, too. Gotta love it.

For what it’s worth, VolQuest put out a list, too. It’s not the same as this one, and honestly even this late on Friday it’s still a toss up which kids make it in and which ones don’t. The most notable difference: VQ says 5-star DL LT Overton (No. 2 overall player in the country) and Rivals 4-star DE Trevor Duncan, from Catholic, will also be here on visits.

Also visiting: Warren Nolen, c/o ‘25 and Waylon Nolen, c/o ‘27

It feels like it’s been quite some time since Tennessee’s had this kind of visitor list for a single weekend. Let’s hope the game lives up to the hype.

Also, It’s late, and it’s been a long day. So forgive me for any errors here.
