Tennessee drops out of the AP Top 25 poll following another disappointing week

NCAA Basketball: Tennessee at Auburn John Reed-USA TODAY Sports

Tennessee is struggling on the basketball court and they’re running out of time to fix it. The Volunteers slept their way to a win against an undermanned Vanderbilt team on Wednesday, and then stumbled against an Auburn team that was without Sharife Cooper on Saturday.

The result? Tennessee is unranked for the first time all year to kick off the month of March. The Vols have just one more regular season game left — a Sunday matchup with Florida in Knoxville. From there we’ll move to tournament season, with the SEC Tournament slated to begin a week from Wednesday.

Gonzaga capped off a perfect regular season and kept their No. 1 status this week, while Michigan leaped over Baylor for the No. 2 spot. Alabama remained in the top ten despite a loss to Arkansas, while the Razorbacks moved all the way up to No. 12.

Tennessee received 19 votes in the poll, the fifth most of those teams that didn’t crack the top 25.
