Quavaris Crouch announces commitment to Michigan State

NCAA Football: Texas A&M at Tennessee Knoxville News Sentinel-USA TODAY NETWORK

Linebacker Quavaris Crouch has finally announced his plans for the 2021 season. The former top recruit will head up north to Michigan State, joining Mel Tucker’s defense with the Spartans.

Crouch entered the transfer portal following the departure of Jeremy Pruitt, leaving Tennessee will a massive need at linebacker.

Henry To’o To’o — Crouch’s running mate at inside linebacker in 2020 — is also in the transfer portal, but has yet to announce his decision. Defensive back Key Lawrence, running back Eric Gray, running back Ty Chandler and left tackle Wanya Morris also left the program during the coaching change, among several others.

Tennessee is left with nothing but question-marks at inside linebacker entering the 2021 season. Injuries and suspensions didn’t help that matter during the spring period. Expect Josh Heupel and the Tennessee staff to attack the portal hard here for depth, maybe even for a starter.

Juwan Mitchell, a transfer from Texas, visited during the Orange and White Game on Saturday.

Crouch is a former four-star prospect who ranked inside of the top 50 overall. An injury forced him to miss his senior season of high school, where he was set to star as a running back. Crouch moved to linebacker at the college level, committing to Jeremy Pruitt, who sold him on the idea. He’ll now move on to Mel Tucker, likely with the same idea in mind.
