Shawn Shamburger’s Tennessee career appears to be over for good this time around. The veteran defensive back entered the transfer portal for the second time this offseason, per a report from 247Sports.
Tennessee DB Shawn Shamburger is in the transfer portal. Shamburger, who has started 16 games in his career, initially entered the transfer portal in January before withdrawing. He's now looking for a new home. Via @GoVols247https://t.co/RdO9h2rCO1— 247Sports Transfer Portal (@247SportsPortal) May 11, 2021
Shamburger had previously entered and withdrawn his name, but was not listed on Tennessee’s spring football roster in March. In 2019, Shamburger was a 12 game starter for the Volunteers, manning the STAR position for Jeremy Pruitt’s defense. He missed much of the 2020 season with injuries, before stepping away from the team to focus on academics.
Now with a new staff in place, it appears that Shamburger has opted for a fresh start.
The former three-star prospect committed to Butch Jones back in 2017. He turned into a key player for the Tennessee defense, but things fell apart in his senior season in 2020. Now with one extra season of eligibility remaining, Shamburger is searching for a new home.
The Georgia native ends his Tennessee career with 86 total tackles, one interception and four sacks.
